water hoping

Last week I had some family time at my father's great grandfather's cottage in Michigan before heading south to spend time with my mother at the beach. Two beautiful, nostalgic places. I have visited Michigan only a few times in my life but luckily the cottage hasn't changed in 50 years so it always feels very familiar. My great great grandfather built it next to his best friend's cottage and it is so much fun to be there and hear my dad's stories about his summer adventures there as a child. Most of which explain the clumsiness that seems to run rampant in my family. That shit has to be genetic.

We had a teeny captain that showed us around the lake...

And lots of time in the water...

The trip was a relaxing walk down memory lane. We saw old friends from our Ohio life (mine only lasted 6 months but it still feels like home in a way) and ate our way around the most charming towns. After which I decided to cleanse my way through the next week at the beach....which kind of happened. If you consider tequila to be cleansing.

There was lots of sand castle building (and destroying) with the little people and rocking on the porch talking and laughing. It was the first time since March that all of the "kids" were in one place - one of my favorite things in the world.  Hope you all have had fabulous summer adventures! I already can't wait until fall thanks to the massive J.Crew catalogue that just showed up....
